
Towns

Ludlow - a beautiful Elizabethan and Georgian Town with 11th century castle numerous antique shops and a 1* Michelin Restaurant. Dinham House is certainly worth a visit (01584 878100). Many events are organised in the town so it is worth ringing the tourist office (01584 875053).

Presteigne - pretty Georgian Town. Judge's Lodgings (01544 260650)are very interesting. Once a very important town and now has many things going on particularly on the art front including an annual music and art festival. The Sidney Nolan Trust is just outside the town (01544 267362).

Hay on Wye (01497 820144) - famous for it's literary festival and bookshops. Lots of interesting shops. Go for a walk on Hay Bluff followed by a goat's milk ice cream at Shepherds

Leominster (01568 616460) - the centre is lovely. There are some really good antique shops, it's gradually getting more well known but there are still some bargains - most of the best shops are on Broad Street.

Hereford (01432 268430) - nice in the centre. There's the Norman cathedral, the mappa mundi and chained library. Go to All saints Cafe, Good food at the left bank and The Castle Pool Hotel. Average shopping.

Kington (01544 230778) - Start for the Offa's Dyke Trial. A small town with 2 butchers, excellent greengrocer (who also sells fish and game) and delicatessen.
Villages
- Pembridge - Black and White village with very old market place. Chapel Gallery worth a look. The New Inn is a great pub. Walk down to the river - children can swim there in the summer
- Eardisland - voted prettiest village in Herefordshire in 1999
- Weobley - English village of the year 2000. Jules' restaurant is fun - a charismatic owner and chef. Salutation Arms also good.
- Eardisley - another pretty black and white village. The tram Inn is attractive does good food and there's a boule court.
- Clun - a 45 minute drive but through stunning countryside to a wonderful place on the Welsh borders
- Shobdon - not much to see other than Shobdon Church, it's famous and unusal - worth a look
