Herefordshire is a gastronomic jewel though nobody knows it yet! This is quite a long list to give you lots of choice.
The Cider Barn, Bearwood Definitely the place to go if you are staying in Bearwood. This is a stunning converted half-timbered cider mill barn only 1 mile away. Great locally sourced food and organic cider (though there is also a wine list and other drinks if you are not that way inclined!). Chef and Patron Sophie Griffiths-Goddard left medical school to cook and previously worked under Michelin starred chef Sean Hill at The Walnut Tree. We really recommend going here. The food is truly superb. Sophie will also drop off food at the house on request if she has the time available.
The Stagg Inn, Titley Until recently held a Michelin 1*. Friendly restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. The fact it’s lost it’s star isn’t reflected in the cooking which is just as good as it’s always been. Much written about in the national press. 15 minutes drive at most.
The Riverside Inn, Aymestry Attractive riverside pub with good food. New owners and food now great – try and dine in the pub rather than the restaurant as ambience better. Near Wheely Wonderful Cycling if you wanted to combine activity with lunch.
Ye Olde Steppes, Pembridge Fabulous brunches, lunches and teas. Freshly cooked, always delicious and such a friendly place – just look at the website.
Jules’ Restaurant, Weobley An institution in North Herefordshire. The chef and owner is very charismatic. Classic food rather than nouvelle cuisine. We really love going here.
The Oak, Wigmore Has been recently refurbished – very attractive. Last time we ate there the food was fantastic. I think the chef has changed but am sure will still be good.
The Lion, Leintwardine Great pub and restaurant. Food is excellent and a lovely place to sit by the River Teme on a summer’s evening. Recently named best pub in Shropshire.
The Jolly Frog, Lentwardine For a land locked county this gastropub does great seafish – the dressed crab is just amazing.
La Becasse, Ludlow Very high quality. Just lost it’s Michelin* though I understand this was very controversial. Will Holland is an exceptional cook.
The Bell Inn at Yarpole Owner and French Chef related to a Michelin starred chef, Claude Bosi. Very good cuisine and relaxed atmosphere. Good pub as well as restaurant.
Pizza 10, Ludlow Really delicious artisan pizzas, no where nearer than Ludlow for good pizzas I’m afraid.
The Beefy Boys The Beefy boys an independent burger restaurant and in 2014 they came second in the burger section of the World Food Championships in Las Vegas competing with all those Texans! You will have to book. Be warned the burgers are very rich in taste. They also do cocktails. The restaurant is a newly built shopping centre with a cinema but this one is a well designed open plan village style development. Parking is easy. There are also lots of good chain restaurants nearby: Wagamamas, Prezzo, Miller and Carter, Wildwood etc if you fancy a night out at the cinema and a bit of grub.
Taste of India, Leominster Pretty good local curry house and takeaway if you need one.
